Bookstart - free pack for children with additional needs
Bookstart gives free books to every child in England and Wales at two key stages before school, as well as free packs for children with additional needs, tips and guidance on reading together, resources and activities, and much more.
Packs for children with additional needs
Bookstart is for every child, so in England, families are entitled to any of these packs in addition to the two standard Bookstart packs. Please see the Bookstart website page for more information.
Bookshine for children who are deaf
There are two packs: Bookshine Baby (0-2 years old) and Bookshine Toddler (3-4 years old). Each pack has two books, a rhyme place mat (with babies signing) and guidance around sharing books. The toddler pack also includes a bookmark showing British Sign Language.
Booktouch for children who are blind or partially sighted
There are two packs: Booktouch Baby (0-2 years old) and Booktouch Toddler (3-4 years old). Each pack has two touch-and-feel books and guidance around sharing books with blind and partially sighted children.
Bookstart Star for children with conditions affecting their fine motor skills
This pack is available for children aged 3-4 who have disabilities that impact on or delay the development of their fine motor skills. Each pack has a copy of "Off to the Beach!" (an exclusive touch-and-feel book from Child's Play publishers), a board book, a finger puppet for playing along with the story and guidance sheets.
BookTrust has teamed up with publisher Child's Play to create three new tactile books, Off to the Park!, Off to the Beach! and Getting Ready, which you'll find inside the various Bookstart additional needs packs.

Disability Football Session for 16+ - Port Vale
Every Thursday 6:00-7:00 pm
Fun and inclusive football sessions delivered by experience coaches for males and females aged 16+ with disabilities and additional needs. Players will gain opportunities to represent Port Vale against other pan-disability squads in competitions and tournaments.
Disability Lead Coach Josh Jones said "This is a really exciting venture for Port Vale Foundation and as the world of Disability Football continues to grow nationally we cannot wait to participate in creating our own journey, along the way creating great memories. Disability isn't a barrier, it is just a change to do things differently.

Green Door Accessible Cycle Hire
Open Monday to Sat, 10:30am - 3:30pm, Cycle Hire Jan-December ( weather dependant during Winter Months)
We have a wide range of standard and accessible cycles for hire. This includes handcycles, companion bikes for two, a tandem, the Velo for wheelchair users and trikes ( both adult & children's sizes ) for added stability.
We think we have a bike suitable for most adults irrespective of ability level.
We also have a number of bikes suitable for both older & younger children. We will do our best to accommodate younger cyclists – if your feet touch the ground – you can cycle!
We also have the following additional items for hire , children's trailer , children's rear bike seat , dog trailer
We are based at the beautiful Westport Lake, Tunstall.
The cost to hire for an hour is £5 for Adults & £2.50 for children ( with a paying adult ) carers ride for free.
Booking is advisable due to the popularity of some of our cycles!

A number of football sessions are available for young people to access. There is also the opportunity join our Staffordshire Aiming High Ability Counts Football Clubs.
- Wednesday’s- Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy, Beaconsfield Drive, Blurton, ST3 3JD - Kicks Ability Counts sessions for 6-16 year olds from 4.45-5.45pm free of charge.
