Sandford Hill Pre School

Sandford Hill Pre School ia a small pre school that provides early years education for 2-5 year olds. We operate morning sessions from 9.30am-12pm Monday-Friday, term time only.

Our aim is to include all children with SEND. We work alongside the local authority and other outside agencies to support each individual childs needs. Parents are welcome to visit the setting and to discuss their childs needs with our staff at any time.

How does this setting know if their children/young person needs extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

We will know if a child needs extra help:

* Through observations

* Areas of concern highlighted from children's profiles

* Discussions with parents

* By speaking to outside agencies working with the child

How will the setting support my child/young person?

We provide quality care for all children. If required staff will attend specific training for the child's needs. If required 1:1 time will be spent with the child to meet their needs.

How will teaching approaches and the curriculum be matched to my child or young person's needs?

Activities are planned to meet children's developmental needs or SEN equipment will be used for inclusion within the setting. Your child's key worker will also regulary observe and assess your child and set targets and next steps.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support their learning?

Regular meetings will be held between parents and the setting where observations and developmental records will be shared and discussed. If needed we can give parents strategies to work on at home. We will also involve outside agancies, if needed, for support.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall wellbeing?

Within the setting your child will have their own keyworker who will observe and record their development. The SENCO along with the keyworker will also help to meet the individual needs of your child. Where appropriate 1:1 support will be given and outside agencies involved.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting?

We liase with the local authority SENCO for support, advice and any specilist training that is required. We also work with any other outside agencies involved with the child, to share information and support when needed.

What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEND have had or are having?

Our setting has a SENCO who supports our keyworkers. All our staff have done paediatric first aid training.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

Risk assessments are carried out and procedures are put in place to ensure that all children are included in all activities within the setting. Activities can then be planned around each child's individual needs and additional support can be provided to suit the needs of individual children.

How accessible is the environment?

We have a flat path at the side of the building for wheelchair access. Inside our setting everything is on one level. Adjustments are made to meet the needs of individual children when the need arises.

How will the setting prepare and support my child/young person to join the next stage of education and life?

When preparing to join our setting children and parents are invited to an open day to view the setting. If required children and parents can also visit during sessions to observe the pre-school during the morning, and meet with our keyworkers and SENCO.

When moving onto school from pre-school we have excellent links with local schools, regular transition visits are arranged and teachers may come to visit the children within the setting.

How are the setting's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

Activities are planned so that they are age and ability appropriate. If required additional resources are provided to support the children's individual needs to ensure access to all areas of the cirriculum.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

This decision is made through observations of the child, strategies are then put into place dependant upon the child's individual needs. We will also work with outside agencies, if required, and apply for addidional funding if needed.

How are parents involved in the setting? How can I be involved?

Parents are welcome into the setting at all times and their wishes, ideas and thoughts are respected.
