How does this setting know if their children/young person needs extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Students’ additional learning needs are assessed when they start with us using a wide range of assessments that all students undertake. The Studio College monitors progress data of our students and puts appropriate interventions and support in place.

How will the setting support my child/young person?

Stoke Studio College has a team of Personal Coaches where pastoral care is placed at the heart of our students’ learning. Personal coaches are crucial to the successful delivery of the Studio Schools curriculum model. They act as a key link point between all aspects of the curriculum, working with students and teaching staff to ensure that the curriculum is holistic, personalised and fully compliant will all relevant National Curriculum requirements.

How will teaching approaches and the curriculum be matched to my child or young person's needs?

The Studio Schools curriculum framework allows for a high degree of personalisation. This ensures that individual students are able to follow the learning programme that best suits their strengths, interests and needs. The personal coach will play a key role in this, working with students to develop their personal learning plans. This will take place in one-to-one coaching sessions on a fortnightly basis and will provide students with the opportunity to set and reflect upon their progress towards their own personal goals. Coaching sessions will focus on a wide range of topics including key qualifications, work placements and the CREATE skills framework. We offer a broad curriculum where students can choose Construction or Engineering as their chosen career path, alongside their GCSE core subjects and option choices.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support their learning?

Personal Coaches negotiate core project delivery by working with students at the beginning of projects and tailor them to meet their goals and training requirements. Personal Coaches plan and coordinate personalised learning plans and routes for each of their students. The personal coach also supports students to reflect on and evaluate their progress, setting personalised targets. They liaise with teaching and other Studio College staff and local businesses to monitor and observe students’ progress. The personal coach makes students aware of the progression routes available to them and how their learning relates to them.
