St Albans Little Learners Nursery

We are a small nursery that is based in the centre of the community in Blurton. We offer places for babies and children from 6 weeks to 4 years and 11 months. The nursery opens from 7am until 6pm five days a week, 49 weeks of the year excluding bank holidays. We currently have 10 qualified staff who range from a Level 3 NVQ up to Level 5 Foundation Degree. There is a SENCO (Speacial Educational Needs and Disability) on duty at all times who has had training through the local authority. She has worked with in the setting for a long period of time and has excellent knowledge in this area.
The nursery works in partnership with Early Years and Ofsted with whom the nursery is registered. They regularly visist and provided advice and support. We were recently inspected by Ofsted (July 2016) and received a 'GOOD' judgement
At the setting we use two halls that are devided into three areas, a baby area, toddler area, and pre-school area. We are based inside a community centre and are fully accessible for wheelchairs/pushchairs and is all on one level.
Our staff provide a good range of experiences that enables children to lead their own learning and build on the children's interests. The pre-school children learn key skills in literacy through daily writing and sounds-and-letters activities. They enjoy recalling the key parts of their favourite stories, using a puppet theatre or the outdoor story themed playhouse to act these out. Our younger children enjoy experimenting with water, paint brushes and chalks to make patterns. Children's communications and language development are supported well. The staff engage the children in purposeful dialogue and encourage them to talk about their ideas, they also skilfully incorporate numbers, counting, shapes and size into everyday activities and promote children's early mathematical skills extremely well.
All staff are enthusiastic as they encourage the children to explore sensory experiences. Young children are fascinated by frozen jelly, which sparks their curiosity and sustains their engagement.
Our children are positive, active and motivated learners.
