The Old Rectory Kindergarten is a 'Home from Home' private day nursery caring for children from birth to 5 years old.

Funded places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds are offered over full day sessions.

We are situated opposite the Mosque on Waterloo Road.

Minimum parking is available at the front of the nursery on the carpark.

The nursery networks really well with the local schools that are within walking distance.

The setting will offer services to children and parents with a variety of additional needs as much as we possibly can.

Parents can be diretced to the nursery through other professionals who we work with; for example the children cenrtres, family play and learning team, health visitors and other professionals.

The staff within the setting have lots of experience and can support families whom may need referrals completing into other services.

Where possible the setting can offer a one to one service for children who need that extra support at all times. Within the setting we aim to cater for each childs individual needs by working very closly with other professionals. In the setting we plan individually for each child. The staff plan small group times and circle times daily and activities commence outdoors daily.

How does this setting know if their children/young person needs extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

The staff in the setting work closely with all professionals and if we think your child needs any extra support then this will be discussed with parents to make sure that the appropriate intervention will be put in place. Permission from parents will always be gained before any professionals are contacted or brought into the setting. 

How will the setting support my child/young person?

The setting will plan activities to meet the needs of your child and will work closly with professionals to ensure that targets are implemented to support your child. Your child will receive outstanding care within this setting.

How will teaching approaches and the curriculum be matched to my child or young person's needs?

Staff have adequate training in planning SMART targets to meet the needs of children.

Visual aids and flash cards are used.

Targets are reviewed and planned by working alongside others.

Legislation and policies are updated regularly to meet individual needs.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support their learning?

We will both know that your child is doing well as your child will be settled at nursery and observations, tracking and planning will show this daily. 

Parents will complete observations to share their child's learning with the setting. These observations also go into the child's learning journal.

Other professionals will also be able to show that your child is learning through their reviews and planned targets. 

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall wellbeing?

Your child will be happy and settled and will be able to make many choices to enhance then learning and development.

Staff will support your child daily through one to one activities and through lots of fun and messy activities.

Your child's needs will be met through their key person's planning and language used daily. Your child will have built a strong bond with their keyperson.

What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the setting?

Health visitors and speech and language therapists may come to the setting to work on a one to one with your child.

The staff in the setting will complete observations and baselines to see if your child will require any extra support and the staff can make referrals to the correct professionals.

What training are the staff supporting children and young people with SEND have had or are having?

Staff have had:

• SMART targets training
• Planning and observation
• Forum paperwork
• SEND Code of Practice.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

One-one will be given and extra support will be given where needed.

We will try our very best to ensure that it is a smooth outing with minimum distractions.

How accessible is the environment?

The environment is easily accessible as toys are on the child's level. We do have stairs leading to the preschool room but the staff can support children when going up and down the stairs to different activities.

How will the setting prepare and support my child/young person to join the next stage of education and life?

The setting will ensure that they are meeting the child's needs daily and will support them with transitions.

Now and next boards are used to support transition's and decision making.

The key person will support your child when they transition to school by visiting the school, sharing information with teachers and supporting your child during their visits.

How are the setting's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

We have a sensory room and quiet rooms that can be used.

Activities are planned to meet their needs.

Free choice is available and play and learning is extended through the adults language and modelling.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

The nursery will work with parents and other agencies/ professional's to see what support is needed.

The parents will decide if they would like further support or if any other agencies need to get involved. 

We will support the child throughout their time at nursery and we will continuously work with parents.

How will our child and young person be involved in the decisions about their learning?

Children are encouraged to make choices daily and flashcards and visual aids are used to enhance this. 

The voice of the child is listened to and end their goals are taking into consideration when they are making decisions.

How will we be involved in the decisions about the learning of our children and young people?

Parents will help their child to make decisions when targets/ goals are being planned. 

Parents opinions are always taken into consideration and parents will always be involved in reviews and any decisions that be will taken.

The setting has an excellent partnership with parents.

Parents are involved by completing observations.

Feedback is given daily to parents about how their child has been throughout the day.

Daily diaries are used and parents can complete these to share any information with the setting.

Parents complete baselines and all about me sheets.

What do I do if I want to make a complaint?

Follow the settings policies and procedures.

Parents can attend groups at the local children centres.

The nursery can give parent contact numbers and direct them to other professional's.
