Mencap Training Academy/DFN Project Search supported internship programme

The Mencap Training Academy delivers this supported internship programme in partnership with DFN Project Search and host employer, ESS Support Services from the Beaconside barracks in Stafford where ESS provide a range of facilities management services.

This location is commutable for young people from Stoke who are eligible to refer on to the programme if they are aged between 16 and 24 and have an EHCP.

Learners on the programme must also want to find a job. We help them to do this through our programme that runs for an academic year from September to July during which time, learners will:

  • Attend short sessions at the beginning and end of the day at the MoD Beaconside site in Stafford (ST18 0AQ) where ESS deliver a range of services. These sessions will cover employability skills and reflections on learners' work experience.
  • Work experience. This can be in a range of roles with ESS at the Beaconside site. Learners will complete c.900 hours of work experience over the course of the year. The aim of the programme is for learners to move on into a paid job of 16+ hours. This may be with ESS, or we will support them to apply for other jobs where they can use the skills and experiences developed while on the programme.

If you are interested in enrolling on this programme or would like to enquire on behalf of a family member or someone you support, then please complete the Mencap Training Academy's online expression of interest form (https://email.mencap.org.uk/p/4P14-VDZ/supported-internships-referral-form?_ga=2.241408514.1233529006.1720448690-1233060909.1718377997) or get in touch.
