Equal Education is a social enterprise, offering a range of specialist tutoring programmes that provide extra support for under-resourced and vulnerable students, including Children Looked After (CLA), those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), those excluded from school (PEX) and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). We can serve as Alternative Provision, supplementary provision and early intervention as we work to narrow the attainment gap, engage students in education and improve outcomes for these learners.

Tutors provide stability and a positive role model, they advocate for the young person, tailoring learning to their interests and needs, resulting in increased engagement in education.

Venue notes

We do not have our own venue but instead facilitate tuition within the student’s home or community venues such as libraries or schools.

Session information

We organise tuition to be delivered by a qualified teacher on a bespoke timetable that suits the needs of the young person. We seek to provide qualified teachers to work 1:1 on the desired timetable outlined in our referral forms.

We can also provide tuition outside of school hours and term times where requested.

Our Programmes Team carefully matches the student with the most suitable tutor (i.e. SEND specific experience) from our community of 600+ qualified teachers. We take a multi-agency approach and collaboratively work with the parent/carer, and other key professionals, to further understand support with the SEND needs and to timely establish a suitable timetable and venue for tuition.

Throughout tuition, our dedicated Support team monitors the attendance, engagement and progress of the young person. Equal Education recruits all staff following safer recruitment processes as per our safer recruitment policy. All of our tutors, who are qualified teachers, suitable qualifications, skills, training and experience to deliver the alternative education services i.e. previous teachers who have worked in PRU’s and supported PEX. Tutors receive training, including trauma and attachment and positive behaviour management, with ongoing individualised support from our Programmes team. We have rigorous safeguarding procedures in place, particularly as the needs and experiences of the student groups we support (SEND and CLA) are highlighted as potentially at greater risk of harm (Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023). Our tutors receive termly training to ensure they are up to date with the additional risks and concerns. Further, our Support team ensures all concerns are shared immediately with Referrers and key professionals.

Cost Dependent on the level of tuition required and whether tuition is in person or online. Please get in touch with our Partnerships team to discuss further.
