Inspiring visit to the The Willows by deaf athlete Debbie Patterson

Children accessing the Resource at The Willows Primary School were treated to inspiring visit from a deaf role model, Debbie Patterson on 1st May 2026.

Debbie, an accomplished athlete with an impressive international career, has represented her country across multiple major tournaments. Her achievements include winning a bronze medal at the Deaflympics in 2013, followed by a strong performance at the European Championships in 2015 where she secured 4th place. She continued her success with a bronze medal at the World Cup in 2016 and further notable finishes at the Deaflympics 2017. She also successfully competed in 2023 World Cup in a 4th ranking.

During her visit, Debbie engaged in football activities arranged by our Practitioner Lead alongside other Practitioners who tailored the session for the children.  She also shared her trophies, football shirts and photographs of her achievements. Children were extremely excited to meet and get her autograph.

The visit offered a valuable opportunity for our deaf children to engage with a positive role model who shares similar lived experiences. The children in our Resource felt inspired, motivated and encouraged by the experience.
