Pupils at The Willows Primary School explored sign language through interactive storytelling and helped run a successful book sale as part of Deaf Awareness Week.

Children at The Willows Primary School took part in a range of engaging Deaf Awareness Week activities on 5th and 6th May 2026, led by Resource Specialist Practitioners.

Through a signed assembly and classroom sessions, pupils brought The Tiger Who Came to Tea to life using props, sign language, and visual storytelling. The interactive approach encouraged children to actively participate, helping them to better understand different ways of communicating while promoting inclusivity.

Pupils responded enthusiastically, enjoying the opportunity to explore storytelling in a visual and accessible format while developing their awareness of deaf communication.

Alongside these activities, a book sale organised by Specialist Practitioners and Resource pupils took place on 6th May. Open to both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, the event was held during break time and after school, attracting strong support from families. The sale was a great success and provided pupils with a valuable opportunity to take an active role in a school event.
