Highlights from our coproduction event
What We Heard from Families and Young People
In June 2026, young people, parent carers and professionals came together at the Stoke-on-Trent SEND Co-production Charter Relaunch Event. Following the event, KIDS produced a report capturing the views, experiences and priorities shared throughout the day. This summary highlights the key messages and what matters most to families and young people.
Families told us they want:
- To be listened to and taken seriously.
- Clear, jargon-free communication.
- Respect, understanding and trust.
- Strong partnerships with services.
- Feedback on how their views have influenced decisions and improvements.
Young people told us they want:
- Their views valued equally to those of adults.
- Information that is accessible and easy to understand.
- Opportunities to be involved in decisions that affect them.
- To know their voice has made a difference.
What gets in the way?
- Not feeling heard.
- Too much jargon and technical language.
- Poor communication.
- A lack of trust.
- Accessibility and transport challenges.
- Not knowing how to get involved.
Our Priorities Moving Forward
- Building trusting relationships.
- Communicating clearly and accessibly.
- Creating more opportunities for families and young people to be involved.
- Showing how feedback leads to action through "You Said, We Did" updates.
- Keeping children, young people and families at the heart of decision-making.
Our Commitment
Nothing About Us Without Us
We are committed to working alongside children, young people and families to strengthen co-production, improve SEND services and achieve better outcomes across Stoke-on-Trent.
