SEND reforms update
Our plan to improve SEND support has been sent!
We have now sent our plan to improve support for children and young people with SEND in Stoke-on-Trent.
This is an exciting step towards making things better for you and your families.
You helped shape this plan
This plan was created by lots of people working together.
This includes:
- Children and young people
- Parents and carers
- Schools and colleges
- Health services
- The council
Your views and experiences helped shape what needs to change.
The plan is built on the idea that everyone should work together to improve support.
What we’re trying to change
We want to make sure that:
- You can get help earlier, when you need it
- You feel supported in your school or setting
- You can learn and succeed close to home
- Adults work together to give you the right help at the right time
We also want to make sure the system is easier to understand and works better for you and your family.
What will be different
Over time, we are working towards:
- More support in schools from different experts
- Better access to help like speech and language and other therapies
- More places for young people locally
- Better support when you move between schools or into adulthood
What happens next
Now the plan has been sent, we are starting to make these changes happen.
We will:
- Begin putting new support in place
- Keep working with children, young people and families
- Keep listening to your feedback
- Your voice will continue to be really important as things develop.
We’ll keep you updated
This is just the start. We will share updates as things progress and make sure you know what is changing and how it affects you.
