Professionals your child might have involved in their care
Your child might have a range of specialists involved with their education and health needs. Each one has a different role in supporting you and your child.
- Audiologist - specialists who assess and measure hearing and discuss the options available to help children hear as well as possible.
- Community Paediatrician - specialist children's doctors who are trained to assess and manage a wide range of developmental, physical, medical and social issues
- Dietician – specialist who supports children’s nutrition and feeding needs
- Health Visitor – specialist nurses who work with families with a child aged 0 to five to identify health needs as early as possible.
- Occupational Therapist – specialists who help children and young people develop their skills in everyday activities such as feeding, dressing, toileting and playing.
- Ophthalmologist - specialist children's eye doctor who diagnoses, prevents, and treats diseases that affect children's eyes and vision.
- Physiotherapist - specialists in conditions or issues that affect a child’s ability to do things involving movement.
- SENCO – practitioner in the nursery who is the lead for coordinating help and support for children with additional needs
- Social worker - help to establish safe and stable environments for children and help to improve the lives of families in need
- Speech and Language Therapist – specialists in children’s speech, understanding of language, attention skills and feeding difficulties
